Elafonissi, with its pink sand made of thousands of crushed seashells on the coastline.
The stunning Falassarna, with its turquoise waters and the underwater ancient city. Falassarna was voted in 2002 as the most beautiful beach in Greece. It’s worth staying until the evening to enjoy a unique sunset.
The pirate’s lair, in Balos and Gramvousa Cape, the lagoon with white sand and one of the most beautiful beaches in the Mediterranean. The view of the Cape from above is truly breathtaking.
Samaria Gorge, the longest gorge in Europe, stretching 18 km. It’s an exceptionally beautiful route among unique flora and fauna species and cool waters flowing from the White Mountains. Here, you’ll see 450 different plant species, and you might even come across the rare Cretan wild goat, known as kri-kri.
Cedar Forest of Kedrodasos, one of the few coastal forests in Greece and Europe, filled with cedar trees and crystal-clear, cold waters.
The beautiful Lake Kournas, the unique natural lake of Crete. There, you can walk, take a ride on a “sea” bike, feed the ducks, or even swim at one of its small beaches.
The traditional villages of Sfakia, in the south of the region, which combine the wildness of the mountainous landscape with the endless blue of the Libyan Sea. Next to the village of Sfakia, don’t miss visiting the Frangokastello with its famous Venetian castle haunted by the myth of the Drosoulites warriors.
Finally, although they are located a little outside the region of Chania, we couldn’t miss mentioning the famous Minoan palaces of Knossos and Phaistos, dating back to around 2000 BC and being the most important archaeological sites in Crete and among the most important in Greece.
